うどん - 日本の文化を英語で説明しましょう。
Udon (wheat pasta)
We often like to start talking about Japanese foods by looking them up in an English-English dictionary. The dictionary we checked commented that this word is used in Japanese cooking and means wheat pasta made in thick strips.
We found the use of the word pasta interesting as it usually refers to Italian noodles, not Asian noodles. We usually use the word noodle to refer to udon. As with many other Japanese things, udon came to Japan from China. Udon is most often eaten hot with a mild soup. Tempura is often eaten on top.
Udon is often eaten cold in the summer time. Due to the ingredients in udon, mass-produced and store bought udon can seem rather chewy when it is served cold. Home-made udon, however, usually does not have this problem when served cold.
You can see the udon below is $2.29. How does this compare with the price of udon you bought recently? You can see that the udon has soba on the left and Chinese meal kits below. American supermarkets often place Japanese and Chinese foods together or in an Asian foods section.
