Gold Eye Sea Bream - Is this the Correct Name?

Sushi names can be a challenge to translate into English. When we looked up this delicious piece of sushi, the first reference we found was for a golden eye snapper. While we love the name, this sushi, served in Japan, is definitely not snapper. We found the name gold eye sea bream, which we would like to believe is correct. It is a beautiful name. However, an Internet search on the Japanese side finally produced the name Beryx splendens. Looking this up, we found the following names: redfish, golden eye perch, alfonsino, alfonsin, splendid alfonsino, and, of course, gold eye snapper. Gold eye sea bream was nowhere to be found. These different names are used in a variety of places. We still prefer gold eye sea bream though, and note that this name is used on some sushi related web pages. This search for the correct name accentuates the difficulty in translating fish names. While we are talking about sea bream, let's not forget that there is a gilthead sea bream too, which lives in the Mediterranean.
