49er Roll 英語 寿司 すし 写真 - Sushi in English with Pictures No. 4
Welcome to 49er country
Gold was discovered in California in 1848 at Sutter's Mill. By the time news got back east and the Gold Rush started, it was 1849. People searching for gold were called 49ers and the term has been used ever since in California. The San Francisco football team is called the 49ers.
This is the 49er Roll. As with many other varieties of sushi eaten in San Francisco, there is no Japanese name. The 49er has salmon, avocado, tuna, rice, seaweed, crab, and pieces of lemon on the top of the salmon. You can see that the crab is ersatz, probably Alaska Pollock. In 1983, fish processors in the U.S. took the idea of making ersatz crab from the Japanese and their way of making surimi, which the Japanese developed in 1973.
