Scallion and Tuna Roll ネギトロ 英語 英会話 日本語 寿司 すし 写真 - Sushi No. 63 - Sushi and Photos with English and Japanese Names

Scallion and Tuna Roll - Are they scallions?

This picture fails to do justice to this incredible scallion and tuna roll. Scallion and tuna roll is the most commonly used English term for this sushi. Scallions are also referred to as green onions and spring onions. Some of the negi used in Japan are scallions, while some of the larger ones are closer to leeks. Wikipedia tells us that the negi used in the Kansai area are what we would call green onions in English, but that those in the Kanto area are closer to leeks. There are many other ways in English that this sushi could be described, but we think scallion and tuna roll sounds best.

Sushi Conversation Point

Customer: What do you recommend today?
Waitperson: The scallion and tuna roll is just to die for.

Comment: Customers in restaurants in the United States often ask their tableservers for recommendations. (Tableserver is another name for waitperson. Waitperson is the gender sensitive term for waiter or waitress, two words which are decreasing in use.)
