今週の英語トピック - Paying for Pillows

English topic of the week

Last week we presented a list of the Top 10 Most Obnoxious Hidden Airline Fees. If you did not see the list last week, please click the link to see it.

Using the lavatory was listed as a joke, but the airlines are getting closer and closer. JetBlue Airways is now charging a $7 fee for a pillow and blanket on flights of more than two hours. Yes, truth is stranger than fiction. As we said last week, most airlines are losing money. Airline analysts think the airlines may have to raise their prices approximately 20%.

If they don't, they will have to keep nickel and diming us for everything. As we explained last week, to nickel and dime means to keep asking for small payments. A few dollars for talking on the phone, a few dollars for checking a suitcase, and a $7 fee for a pillow and blanket. I can understand being a discount airline and charging for drinks, meals, and more. But pillows and blankets?

Who knows what new fees the next weeks will bring? Maybe we really will have to pay to use the lavatory. If you traveled to Europe, you may recall having to pay to use the bathroom in European train stations. We will find out in the months to come if airlines will be installing coin lavatories.
